Intro to Agility
ADC is proud to announce our new Intro to Agility course!
This fun, 4-week course is open to dogs of all breeds from 9 months of age and will let you dip your toes in the water and find out if the sport of agility is for you, and more importantly, your dog!
Our introduction course is a great way for you to spend time with your dog, whilst learning valuable skills that you can use in your everyday life. It also serves as the feeder program into the club's more extensive training program.
Registrations for the April intake are now full! Registrations for our May intake will open in April. The limited spots that are available will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Payment must be made within 48 of registration or your spot will be allocated to someone else.
What you will learn
This course will teach you the foundations of working as a team, basic obedience (so your dog will listen to you) and how to use your new-found connection to motivate your dog over equipment and around a course.
But do we get to do all the fun stuff? .... of course !
Using specially sized equipment, our instructors will help both you and your dog take your first steps onto agility equipment, with confidence and ease. So yes, you're going get to to try your hand at the dog walk, seesaw, A-frame and of course, jumps and tunnels.
At the end of your 4 weeks, you will be able to combine all these new found skills and put yourself and your dog to the test with a super fun mini competition course... who knows, it might just be the start of your dog's agility career.
The course runs over 4 weeks and will teach your dog a selection of the following:
Introducing your dog to agility contact equipment (dog walk, A-frame, seesaw)
Introduction to jumps (tyre, winged and non-winged hurdles, spread, broad)
Introduction to tunnels
Holding position on pause boxes
Building your dog's core strength on fitness equipment
Growing confidence in balancing exercises
As well as:
Improving your dogs body awareness through teaching rear end awareness
Building your connection to improve and grow your teamwork
Expanding on basic obedience skills
Learning what motivates and drives your dog
No matter your dogs age or breed, you will work through the course at a pace that best suits you as a team. From focusing on building strength and confidence, to the introduction of agility equipment, with appropriately sized / designed equipment that will safely allow you and your dog to thrive.
So if you like having fun with your dog and want to learn a new skill or if you have seen an exhibition of dog agility somewhere and though my dog could do that the this fun Intro to Agility course is for you.
The course will run on 4 consecutive Thursday nights at 6:45pm starting from Thursday 4 March for the March intake, or Thursday 1 April for the April intake at the Dog Rings at Castle Hill Showground.
The course costs $120 and payment is required at the time of registration. Failure to pay within 48 hours will result in your spot being allocated to someone else.
You will need to bring:
Treats cut up into small cubes (in a treat pouch or bum bag) and/or your dog's favourite tug toy
Your dog on a normal lead and flat collar OR a slip lead
A water bowl
