This fun, 5-week course is open to dogs of all breeds from 9 months of age and will let you dip your toes in the water and find out if the sport of Agility is for you, and more importantly, your dog!

 

Our taster course is an excellent way for you to spend time with your dog whilst learning valuable skills that you can use in your everyday life. It also serves as the feeder program into the club's more extensive training program.

 

The course has proven to be very popular, with intakes filling in a flash. Classes are capped at a maximum of 10 students. This is to ensure that you have adequate time with the instructors and on  equipment to ensure your success. Places are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Learning Outcomes

This course will teach you the foundations of teamwork, basic obedience (so your dog will listen to you) and how to use your newfound connection to motivate your dog over equipment and around a course.

 

But do we get to do all the fun stuff? Of course!

 

Using entry-level sized equipment, our instructors will guide both you and your dog through your first steps onto agility equipment with confidence and ease. So yes, you're going to have a go at the dog walk, seesaw, A-frame and of course, jumps and tunnels. (Subject to your dog's confidence level and age).

 

At the end of your five (5) weeks, you will be able to combine all these newfound skills both you and your dog can whiz around a super fun mini course… where it might just become the start of a long and fun agility career!

Course Outline

The course runs over five (5) weeks and will teach your dog a selection of the following:

  • Introducing your dog to agility contact equipment (dog walk, A-frame, seesaw).

  • Introduction to jumps (tyre, winged and non-winged hurdles, spread, broad).

  • Introduction to tunnels.

  • Hold a position on pause boxes.

  • Build your dog's core strength on the fitness equipment.

  • Growing confidence in balancing exercises.

As well as:

  • Improving your dog's body awareness through teaching rear end awareness.

  • Building your connection to enhance and grow your teamwork.

  • Expanding on basic obedience skills.

  • Learning what motivates and drives your dog​.

 

No matter your dog's age or breed, you will work through the course at a pace that best suits you as a team. From focusing on building strength and confidence to introducing agility equipment with appropriately sized/designed equipment that will safely allow you and your dog to thrive.

 

So, if you like having fun with your dog and want to learn a new skill or have seen an exhibition of dog agility somewhere and thought my dog could do that, this fun Agility Taster course is for you.

Session Information

The course will run on five (5) consecutive Thursday nights at 6:45 pm at Castle Hill Showground. The first class begins on the 1st Thursday night of the month.

 

The course cost is $120.00, and payment is required at the time of registration. Your place is not secured unless full payment is recieved within 48 hours of registrtaion. (Payment can be made via direct bank deposit) failure to do this will result in your place being allocated to the next in line.

 

What to bring?

 

  • Treats cut up into small cubes (in a treat pouch or bum bag) and your dog's favourite tug toy.

  • Dog's with a regular lead and flat collar or slip lead.

  • Running shoes.

  • Water for you and your dog.
